CAPA HIGH SCHOOL

Q: What do you plan to do after high school?

A: After high school I plan to attend The New School in New York City as an Acting major and Writing minor. Once I graduate I'd like to move to California not only to pursue my dream of working in the film industry but to be near the beach.

Q: What is your best memory from senior year?

A: One of my favorite memories from senior year was my trip to Florida with my family and completing my film project while I was there. While on the vacation I made a short film about my brother that held a lot of truth of the hardships of his young life. Although I was nervous to share it, my class and teacher gave it high praise.

Q: Best memory from all of high school?

A: My favorite memory of all high school was in my  junior year before my theater class was going to perform our Shakesphere show. My friends and I ran the halls awaiting the news of whether our friend would be in trouble or not. We watched through the small window of the classroom door awaiting his fate. That time, he didn't get in trouble but it was about us all being together in the moment that made it like it was.

Q: What is your greatest achievement?

A: My greatest achievement from high school is my growth. I learned more about life in those four years than I ever learned about algebra. I learned how to speak up for myself, be myself without a care, be a good friend, and be a well rounded artist. Any time I surprised myself, I felt I achieved something. One big one was winning the Philadelphia young playwrights monologue festival in my sophomore year.

Q: What is one thing you will miss about your school?

A: One thing I will miss about my school is the people. I will miss the dynamic of the students and teachers . I will miss my friends most of all, they are really some special people. Getting to go to our black box theater with them everyday for class will never be a memory I don't hold close to my heart.

Q: How has your high school experience shaped you?

A: My highschool experience has shaped me because of the experiences it has given me. My views and the things i believe in have been in light of the people i have met and the challenges i have faced. All the hardships my highschool years brought me, I am thankful for because of all they have taught me.

Q: What has been your most formative high school experience?

A: One formative experience I had in high school was in my freshman year. I wanted to be chosen for this after school theater program but unfortunately wasn't. That year was very hard for me. I felt like I fought to be seen but also fought with myself to put myself out there. I just had enough after this rejection. I decided I was done caring about what everyone thought of me. Ever since then i've promised myself to always be who i was and i've kept it. From that the right opportunities and people have come along.

Q: Do you have any advice to give to incoming freshmen?

A: My advice to any incoming freshman is don't put too much pressure on yourself. Don't over worry about making the right group of friends or doing the right things, dressing the right way. It will all come in time. When I was a freshman a senior told me this “you have to think about who you are. It won't come easy, but one day you'll be walking down the hallway and you'll realize this is me, this is who I am. You'll see it in yourself.” I thought about getting to that place way too often. The truth is you don't need to know, you'll change more each year then you can imagine. You'll continue to grow your whole life. It's more about being happy with yourself and where you are. The moment you stop looking you'll find it.

Q: How are you dealing with quarantine? What are you doing to keep yourself engaged?

A: Quarantine is hard. It's hard not to think about all the things that i should be doing. I'm about to turn 18, my life is really starting. I'm moving to a new state so i wanted to spend as much time with my city as i could. I'm trying to take it day by day and be hopeful for this time to pass. I've been keeping myself occupied with trying to be creative and do the things i love that i don't always get to do. I've found a new passion for cooking while i've been home and i love to draw, write, and watch movies and tv series. I try to also keep my body and mind healthy although it is challenging at this time.

Q: How do you feel about your senior year being cut short?

A: I feel very sad about my senior year being cut short. There is so much time I wanted to have with my friends before the year ended. During this time I would have performed as a lead in our senior play, completed my senior project, did my theater class’ last show together, went to prom, had an award ceremony and luncheon, and made those final memories. I would have least gotten to say goodbye.

College Essay Excerpt -

“I read tarot cards, but  recently I‘ve been lost. I put my blue and gold cards back into their star and moon decorated box. This was just like many nights. Trying to search for the answers, any answers actually. I searched for them through music, as I danced to my Fleetwood Mac record spinning endlessly, through my candles that I would light, believing they were flickering in tune with my soul, and of course, through my tarot cards.  I use them to tell everyone else their future, but can’t seem to find my own. Many people have told me my readings have come true, and friends have thanked me for leading them through a difficult time. The truth of the matter is I can feel things, I sense what is going to happen. I have a very strong intuition.”
