Despite another year without a One Direction reunion on July 23, Louis Tomlinson shows love to the band at every show of his Faith in the Future world tour by singing Night Changes and Where Do Broken Hearts Go.
Opening for Louis Tomlinson at The Mann in Philadelphia on July 27 were up-and-coming artist Andrew Cushin and a band originally from Germany known as the Giant Rooks.
Andrew Cushin, a 23 year old from Newcastle, United Kingdom, made sure he was leaving the audience with a name to remember. His “intimate live performances wow[ed] fans with his powerful vocals and intensely relatable lyrics”. His next album Waiting For The Rain is being released on September 29th consisting of music written in his bedroom that he is excited to share with the rest of the world.
Giant Rooks, a German indie rock band, originated from Hamm, Germany in 2014. The band stunned the crowd at The Mann with lead singer Frederik Rabe’s vocals, bassist Luca Göttner, drummer Finn Thomas, pianist Jonathan Wischniowski, and guitarist Finn Schwieters. Their fame quickly grew across TikTok as they recently reached 2.5 million followers with their cover of Tom’s Diner and fan favorites Wild Stare and New Estate. Photographing Giant Rooks and simultaneously admiring their live performance was difficult as I could not sway with the crowd and shout the lyrics all whilst taking photos. The band is releasing a new single titled Somebody Like You on August 4 and have been performing it live for fans while opening for Louis Tomlinson on tour.
Louis Tomlinson hit off his Faith in the Future world tour in Uncasville, Connecticut on May 26th. With his openers in Philadelphia, Andrew Cushin and the Giant Rooks, fans were already jumping up and down. Dressed in red and black, they exchanged friendship bracelets just as fans did at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Tomlinson performed 22 songs with his band- guitarist Michael Blackwell, guitarist Isaac Anderson, Bassist Matt Dinnadge, pianist Zak Cranmer, and drummer Steve Durham- inviting the audience to sing along. Some songs had fans shouting lyrics and for others, they raised their phones with flashlights, swaying back and forth to the music.
