Everything You Need to Know About the School District's Mayoral Forum

The school district’s mayoral forum on March 21st started with candidates sharing their school experiences and closed with candidate Reverend Warren Bloom telling us to pray for the city. The forum, held inside the Parkway branch of the Free Library, featured eight mayoral candidates as they discussed their plans for the future of Philly schools.

For the last 14 years, Maria Quiñones-Sánchez has represented Philadelphia’s 7th district on the city council. As the first Puerto Rican woman elected, she has focused on finding solutions to economic justice, keeping families in their homes, and prioritizing land use innovation. In September, she was one of the first Democratic candidates to step down from City Council and announce her bid for Mayor of Philadelphia. 



Philly Mayoral Primaries Coming in 2023 and Helen Gym is Ready to Run

Earning the most primary votes for city council since the 1980s, winning 56 out of Philadelphia’s 66 wards (in a field of 28 other Democrats), getting arrested for protesting for school funding in Harrisburg, and giving advice out on Queer Eye can all be accredited to former councilmember at-large Helen Gym.
